Get Current, Stay Current
The Challenge: The Department of Veterans Affairs faced an urgent need to modernize legacy mainframe platforms and virtual tape systems housed at its primary and disaster recovery data centers. The existing environment was nearing end-of-life, lacked on-demand scalability, and required a refresh to continue supporting mission-critical workloads. Without a comprehensive solution, the agency risked version lock degraded system reliability, and an inability to adapt to future mission requirements.
The Solution: The Prime Contractor selected ESCgov’s eRAMP solution to provide the agency access to a modernized mainframe environment and virtual tape infrastructure. Key aspects of the solution included:
- On-demand scalability of compute and storage resources to meet fluctuating mission requirements
- Scheduled hardware refreshes made possible by an 8-year contract term (base + seven options)
- Bundled maintenance and support services to ensure reliability and availability at both primary and disaster recovery sites
- A consumption-based pricing model, allowing the agency to align spending with actual usage instead of large upfront capital outlays
The Results: A solution that modernizes infrastructure today, ensures it stays current in the future, and scales with mission-requirements.
- VA received improved flexibility and scalability, enabling rapid adjustment of capacity to mission demand
- The Prime Contractor avoided the need for upfront capital investment during the initial modernization and subsequent refreshes
- Our OEM partner generated more predictable sales resulting from scheduled hardware refreshes
